The European Commission, the EU Member States, and the eCAUSIS consortium share the joint goal of protecting Europe’s critical infrastructure with quantum key distribution (QKD1). To span the whole of the EU with a reliable and secure QKD network, and to contribute the Europe’s leading role in creating value out of quantum technologies (QT), the project eCAUSIS will develop and industrialise a secure and interoperable quantum key distribution (QKD) module and a key management system (KMS) that give the highest value to the user for reasonable capital and operational expenses.
(CAPEX and OPEX). This strategic vision translates into the following specific objectives: European,
Certifiable, Affordable, User-oriented, Secure, Integration-able, Scalable, respectively. Concretely,
The European dimension is a fundamental pillar of the eCAUSIS project. Building up a European design and manufacturer for this technology is a central objective of the project. The entire consortium of eCAUSIS thus exclusively works with EU-owned IP or unrestricted licences on the level of optical components, QKD systems, and KMS. The manufacturing of all optical components and the assemblage of the QKD systems will happen in the EU.
